March Madness has begun!

The biggest sale of the year is active now through March 25th 11:59 pm MDT.

I've looked over this sale all weekend and it's true, this is the best of the year. Because this sale is strictly for the Thrive Life line of foods many of these discounts exceed those from Black Friday and I could not be more excited!

Best of all is the standard of quality Thrive Life strives for in it products. More than 93% of the THRIVE food brand is Certified Gluten Free. More than 97% have No hydrogenated oils, No artificial color or flavorings, and are non-GMO.

Order with ease from the March Madness Page
or
Search my site, to learn more about our items.
For the deepest discounts look to ordering by the Case or Pantry 10 Pack.

Don't let your discounts end there. Earn free and half off product on your order and any orders you gather by sharing the sale with friends. Just contact me during the sale and I'll set you up as host of a "virtual party". For each order placed under your party you can earn 10% in free retail priced Thrive Life products. If your party makes enough sales, you can earn retail products at half-off as well.

These prices will last through the length of the sale, only as long as supplies last, so get your party on and don't miss out!

March Madness Case Sale

March Madness begins Tuesday March 18 and runs through Tuesday March 25. All THRIVE products will be discounted during the sale at prices rivaling those during Black Friday. The deepest discounts will be on Cases and Pantry 10 packs.
Plan your purchases early, prices will last only while supplies last. To help you get a jump on it, I’ll be taking pre-orders now through Monday evening. Just e-mail me a list of each item you’d like, specify the amount and size, if you’d like an individual can or package; along with your mailing address, billing address, phone number and the best time I can contact you for your payment information and I’ll be happy to place your order once the sale starts. Or if you’d prefer follow the link to the March Madness Picker Page, load your shopping cart and once the sale begins, complete your order. (The price in your cart will update as you begin your checkout, during the sale.)

If you've made a purchase previously and haven’t yet hosted a “party” or “class”, you may have a Double Dip benefit available. That could mean free or half-off products. If you’d like to open a “party” during the sale your benefits could be extended with the products you purchase. If you tell a friend about the sale and they make a purchase through me or my link and let me know you were the one who told them about it, I can tie their purchase to your “party” and you can collect even more benefits (10% of each purchase in free product). It’s like having money in the proverbial bank; don’t let your benefits go to waste.

I’m excited to help you build your food store on a budget!

March Specials + More

March is a month full of exciting sales from Thrive Life. Extend the possibilities of your home food store, and stretch how far your dollar will go this month by taking advantage of this month’s specials.

The March Specials Flyer looks like an advertisement for a good breakfast. I’m reminded of the breakfasts my Grandmother would have gotten up early to make for us, of course by using THRIVE preparation time is cut in half and I can lay out a similar breakfast to Grandma and get a bit more sleep. Think cheesy omelets or scrambled eggs filled with sausage crumbles, hot cereal or pancakes with fruit and yogurt on the side.  If you’d rather a great breakfast on the go, grab a handful of Vanilla Yogurt Bites and a handful of the Freeze Dried Fruit that makes you swoon. This month think Mangoes, Peach Slices (Ooo Peach Slices!), or Sweet Cherries.

I was excited this month to find a recipe for Tabouli Salad and another for a Breakfast Smoothie using the 9 Grain Cracked Cereal in the Thrive Life Recipe finder.  Not only that, I learned that the 9 Grain Cracked Cereal would work well in several multi-grain bread recipes. One of my favorites can be found posted at Our Best Bites.

The highlight of the Emergency Supplies for me this month is the Quick Fire Stove. I've shared this video before; it highlights the qualities of this stove the best.

It’s small, fairly light weight and can be used with multiple types of fuel. When I first looked at this product I watched and read everything I could about it. One video showed it being used on stove top during a power outage…we’ll that’s just easy.

Running now through April 20th , or while supplies last, is a promotion sale for a kit that will help build your 72 hour emergency kits, or could make great gifts for newlyweds or those who enjoy spending time in the outdoors, the Water Filter Bottle and Emergency Crank Flashlight/Radio Combo 4 Pack.
Retail Price: None, this is a promotion package and can only be purchased through a consultant.
HP Price: $142.99
Promo Price: $111.79
Pack includes:
4 Seychelle 28oz Water Filter Bottles
4 Emergency Crank/Flashlight/Radios
4 Car Charger Adapters

Last and certainly not least, Thrive Life is following the advice of the consultants who make up their Business Advisory Counsel and having a blowout sale to rival that of Black Friday. Beginning this Tuesday March 18 through Tuesday, March 25 all THRIVE products will be reduced in price! Look forward to seeing deep discounts, with the deepest discounts on the cases. Once a full price list is available to me I’ll begin crunching numbers so I can let you know where the best deals are. Watch for more information to come…
Have fun planning your home store!

Top Secret Sale from Thrive Life

Shhh...I've just learned from a Top Secret source that Thrive Life is planning a big sale this month. It's very hush-hush though, so tell only those you can trust.

I'll fill you in on the details as I get them.

How’s your Home Store looking? Does it make you happy when you open your panty or cupboard door? Does it bring you peace? My hope is that you’re pleased and have a sense of security that if your family were to “have an emergency”, the loss of a job, an extended power outage…whatever your personal emergency looks like, you’d be able to sustain yourself on the items in your home for the duration.

Let’s start with the item I feel is the most important: Water.  It doesn’t matter how much food is in your pantry, it’s useless without water. FEMA and The Red Cross agree…we should all have at least two weeks of water storage on hand;  A minimum of 2 gallons per person per day. That’s a MINIMUM. Remember water is not just for drinking and cooking but for cleaning (and flushing toilets), too. Young children, the elderly and the sick will have need for more water, so keep that in mind as you place it in your home store. I have been so strongly impressed with the importance of water storage; I made it the subject of myfirst blog post.

Next, be certain that you have a three month supply of the items you need on a daily basis. If your family eats spaghetti once a week, you ought to have enough noodles and sauce-makings for 12 weeks, etc. If you’re not there yet, build slowly adding just a few items at a time. This is your short term storage.

Now, to be sure your long term store is set properly for your family. Before filling your pantry with brownie mixes and freeze dried bananas, (both beautiful items) for the preservation of your loved ones begin with the basics. You know - the stuff that will keep you alive.
  • Grains (suggested minimum for one person for one year 400 lbs.): wheat, rice, oats, quinoa, pasta, barley, are just a few of the available, viable options.
  • Beans and Legumes (suggested minimum 60 lbs. per person, per year). What are your favorite beans? We constantly rotate through pinto beans like no other.
  • Milk and Dairy (suggested minimum 75 lbs. per person, per year). Unless you’re storing canned butter, the fat has been removed from your long term dairy for storage purposes.
  • Fats and Oils (suggested minimum 20 lbs. per person per year): vegetable oil, olive oil, coconut oil. Some oils have a longer shelf life than others, so be sure to rotate through your oils in a timely manner.
  • Sugars (suggested minimum 60 lbs. per person per year): Honey stores really well in buckets and has more health benefits than just for eating; sugar set aside for long term should not be stored with oxygen absorbers.
  • Salt (suggested minimum 8 lbs. per person per year). This is table salt, Epsom salt should be part of your auxiliary supply just like shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste, but is not listed here.
  • Fruits/Vegetables (suggested minimum 90 lbs. per person per year). A variety will help keep your family from appetite fatigue. A friend and fellow Thrive Life consultant challenged herself and her family to liveon their food store for 30 days; in a letter to her customers she wrote about what she had learned, “Store a lot more fruit!  I realized how much fruit we all like to eat.  We snack on it, put it in our oatmeal, add it to muffins, and use it in smoothies.   I thought I had a lot of fruit stored but I found that I need a lot more.  I highly recommend adding some or more freeze dried fruit to your pantry and food storage.”
  • Auxiliary Foods (weight will vary): Vanilla added to powdered milk improves flavor. Liquid smoke is a great flavor additive if you’ll be making your own wheat gluten as meat replacement. Vinegar can be used to make cottage cheese, butter milk and sour cream. Rennet and citric acid are needed to make mozzarella. Cocoa, chocolate syrup and powdered drink mixes can help in the reduction of appetite fatigue.
If you’re blessed to have an LDS Home Storage Center near by many of these items can be purchase pre-packaged at cost. They have no need to cover overhead, as they are manned by volunteers. Check their current order form and maps to determine if this would be a cost effective way for you to bulk up your home store.

The best way to rotate these foods, and be assured that you’ll have the knowledge to use them, is to use them. Thrive-a-lize all your favorite recipes, gain a firsthand knowledge of at least 3 different ways to use each item, make your own bread perhaps even use yeast you’ve captured yourself. Set yourself up to more than merely survive your eventual emergency, prepare to THRIVE.

And now for the February Specials… *drum roll*
This month Thrive Life has compiled some beautiful (and beautifully priced) packages. Beyond that, on these packages they’re offering FREE SHIPPING!

The Q-pon this month is for freeze dried Ground Beef. Stretch your dollar by purchasing by the case or 10-pack for an additional 5% off.

Thrive Life has also introduced nine New Emergency Supplies

Winter Warning

When it snows in the south, we shut down.
I laughed right out loud the first time I saw it snow after I'd moved to Georgia. There I was driving down the highway and all the cars began to slow down. My passenger informed me that if it began to stick to the sides of the road, we'd be stuck.
"What?!!"

Yep. When it snows in the south (particularly if it sticks) everything comes to a halt. If there isn't much warning before the snow begins to fall, driving down the highway you might see car, after car, after car pulled to the side of the road. We just don't get the opportunity to practice driving on slick roads 'round here, you can't blame us really. I'll admit, though I learned to drive and passed my driving test on snow covered roads I don't know if, after 20 years of southern living, I could safely traverse them without a bit of practice.

Like many, before the snow arrived I traveled out in anticipation of the winter weather. Unlike most, my purpose was to get the ingredients for hot cocoa for my children who were sure to "need" it between moments of play in the snow; not join the run on bread, water, and milk. I began my trip amused by the number of people making what I would consider their last minute trips. Frankly, I'd been amused most of the day reading through the posts on my Facebook feed dealing with the need for last minute items. I'd even solicited for pictures of emptying shelves should any of my friends find themselves in store aisles. (Thanks, Jennifer G.)

It was while walking through the store myself that my thinking about the rapidly depleting shelves began to change. Were so many really that ill prepared for what some would consider an emergency? Were so few so unaware that were they to be without water for two or three days a case of bottled water wouldn't sustain all their water needs?

Most disturbing to me was the bread aisle. I'm not so naïve that I don't realize how few people know how to bake their own bread anymore. It wasn't that, though that's sad, it was that even the hot dog and hamburger buns were recognized as a form of bread, but the tortillas almost seemed to be untouched.

Tortilla's just happen to be one of the easiest forms of bread to make and VERY versatile. Go ahead, think for just a moment of the different ways you could use a tortilla in a meal. Just need a sandwich? Why not a peanut butter and jelly roll? Not appealing? A mini pizza? Of course my children's favorite way to eat tortillas are in quesadillas. Sometimes I'll pull out salsa, olives, re-fried beans, Taco TVP, cheese, sour cream, onions, tomatoes, or whatever and just let them put their own together. Then place them on a cookie sheet to broil for a few moments, turn them over and give them a few moments more. Tah-dah! A lunch that makes every one happy.

During my second semester of college a friend taught me how to make tortillas (Thank you, Jennifer KC.); with little money to live on I at them regularly. (It's on this I blame my freshman-15.) Not only are the ingredients cheap, making tortillas is EASY.

The BEST thing about tortillas is all the ingredients are extremely shelf stable and will last in your home store for a long time. Check your pantry, there's a good chance you've got the basic ingredients right now.

Flour
Shortening - I've also used butter and vegetable oil
Salt
Oh yeah, and water

Simply combine your ingredients, roll out the created dough and toast in a skillet on each side. Here, here, and here are just a few recipes.

Well, with a pantry stocked with what you need, why would you venture out in to the elements for last minute bread?

January 2014 - Thrive Life Specials

Looking over the January specials my first thought was, “Oh good! The spinach is on sale!” I've determined that after the holidays and at least two viruses visiting our home in the past month I’m in desperate need of a simple way to detox. I've been looking over recipes for two Detox Smoothies that require spinach. The first one calls for the use of a pear…easier than coring a pear would be to use a handful or so of the THRIVE Pears, also on special this month. (I’m not going to lie; I like the idea of upping my magnesium with the pumpkins seeds, too.) The second recipe will be the easiest for me to pull off. One trip past the grocery store and I’ll have the cucumber, everything else is on my shelf: THRIVE Strawberries, THRIVE Bananas, THRIVE Instant Milk, and of course THRIVE Chopped Spinach. (No, I don’t keep ground flax seed on hand, but I figure I can’t go too wrong using a little flax seed oil.) The best part is if I chop all the freeze dried ingredients before I add the cucumbers or liquid, it should blend to smooth consistency really easily! I’m excited to start the New Year doing something great for me!

January’s Q-pon is for the Seasonings Variety 9-pack. Loaded with nine of the tastiest seasonings, most of which are freeze dried, the 9-pack is a good deal even without this month’s price reduction. Inside find, one each:
Salad Seasoning Blend (my favorite)
Oregano
Parsley
Peppercorn
Italian Seasoning Blend (another favorite)
Cilantro
Chives (can’t live without ‘em)
Chef’s Choice (*swoon*)
Basil

To learn what Chef Todd has in mind for January’s specially priced food items check out this month’s feature recipes, then watch him put them together during the Thrive It Up Broadcast, January 14th at 7 pm MST.
The Potato Chunks and Roast Beef reminded me that it had been awhile since I’d made Beef Stew, so I made some tonight. This time I remembered to write the portions down as I made it so I could share it with you.
THRIVE Beef Stew (Or Not)1 ½ parts THRIVE Beef TVP or 2 Parts THRIVE Roast Beef
2 parts THRIVE Potato Chunks
½ part THRIVE Celery
½ part THRIVE Carrot Dices
1 part THRIVE Chopped Onions
12+ parts water - add more as desired (I like mine really thick, so not so much water for me.)
½ teaspoon THRIVE Beef Bouillon (Vegetarian and Gluten Free) for each cup of water used.
For added thickness add Potato Flakes, or like me, add Garlic Powder (you can never have too much garlic). Heat it up! Dry ingredients will expand to about twice the initial measured amount.
Serve topped with a bit of THRIVE Shredded Cheddar Cheese. Yummy!

Now onto some more serious business, earlier this week this video was posted in one of my Facebook groups.

It turned my stomach to think just how far away
my family is, from being prepared to leave in a hurry. So I went looking for ways to fix that problem. I now know how to move myself forward and hope if you’re not adequately prepared you’ll find an option that best suits you here, too.
I’m a paper person; I like to hold a hard copy. I’m also a color person, so I like the idea of a binder with a bright cover. These printables from BYU Women’s Conference fit my needs best:
Lists of the items that in an emergency would need to be gathered together in a hurry on Binder Pages with
Binder Covers in pink, yellow , and blueI’m sure I’ll also borrow some ideas for putting my Important Documents together from another Thrive Life consultant, Misty Marsh.
Though it isn’t a good fit for me, one woman posted on SugarDoodle.net, “What I did is I scanned all of my info in:
-Family SSN#'s and Birth Certs
-All insurance info (life, car, home, medical)
-All account info and numbers
-I made a spread sheet of all accounts (bank, credit card, mortgage, student loan, etc. - whatever I paid monthly or used for banking) and put all account numbers, any web addresses, account user names and passwords, and phone numbers on the sheet
-I put copies of all investment information and retirement plan papers
-I copied front and backs of all credit cards
-I copied baby record books and immunizations for both of my boys
-I copied all home purchase info - deeds, titles, purchase docs
-I copied Temple Recommends, Voter registrations, donor cards, and a family picture
-I copied car titles and drivers licenses and I copied all home bills (gas, electric, phone, etc.)

“I scanned this in and then burned about 4 or 5 of these disks.  I gave one to my parents, one to my in-laws, one to my sister in law (who would probably end up with my children if something happened to us).  I did say to only use it in the case of emergency.  I have a couple of copies.  I have a copy on my husband's computer and one on mine.  I feel pretty safe that someone could get our stuff together with all of this in one place - especially my husband if something happened to me.  Eventually I want to get a fire-safe safe to put this disk in, but for now there are copies throughout the United States, so we should be good.”

I love that she was thinking about having multiple copies “just in case”. That’s what preparedness is all about, preparing for that “just in case" emergency.
Here’s to the beginning of a new year that’s sure to be filled with opportunities to reach our preparedness goals! I’d love to help you reach yours, contact me if I can.

The Perfect Gift!

We’re all looking for the perfect gift…and this just may be it!

New to the Thrive Life Emergency line, the Sawyer Mini is the perfect gift for your favorite outdoorsman, hiker or camping fan, scout, domestic and international traveler, or emergency preparedness enthusiast. This mini filter is perfect for everything from camping with the kids to traveling abroad where tap and bottle water cannot be trusted.

The Sawyer Mini is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, yet can filter up to 100,000 gallons! It comes with a drinking pouch, but can also be attached to the standard disposable water bottle, camel back, or you could simply use the straw to drink water directly from your water source.

This back-flushable filter removes 7 log (99.99999%) of all bacteria i.e. salmonella, and E. coli as well as harmful bacteria which cause cholera; 6 log (99.9999%) of all protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium. Removal rates are equal to or exceed other filter options. EPA guidelines allow ten times more protozoa than Sawyer PointONE filters allow.

Purchase individually or in a multi-pack.

Changes at LDS Home Storage Centers

Frustration!
May 1st the LDS Home Storage Centers underwent a change, that after some time and understanding, I stood fully behind. Those volunteering at the Centers east of the Mississippi, and a few more select HSC, had been informed that after July 1st there
would no longer be any on-site canning available. Up to November 1st, the bulk items they had on hand could be sold and the mobile sealers could be loaned out to patrons
to seal their bulk items. They were also told that after November 1st all items received by the Home Storage Centers would be prepackaged, but the sealer and packaging items would still be available for patrons who might choose to re-package their items for longer term storage. For instance the prepackaged milk is now sold only in bags and has a shelf life of 2 years, if however that same milk is properly sealed for long term storage the shelf life extends to 20 years.

Like I said, I stood fully behind these changes. Having more items prepackaged and ready for easy pick up, would make it easier for me to help people see that this was a viable, inexpensive way to build their home stores, and more people could find themselves better prepared for whatever their personal emergency may be. Now, I’m reeling.

The new HSC Price List came out on November 1st and no longer has listed any packaging items available for purchase. While the number of food items available has not changed, any options for re-packaging or purchasing and sealing your own (even off-site) are now off the table. I called my local HSC for confirmation and clarity...”Had I not understood properly? When did they learn that packaging items would not be available for purchase? What was the plan for the sealers on site available for patrons to borrow? There are still five items available for bulk purchase, how are they to be stored for the long term?” *Deep breath* The volunteers at my local HSC were notified 4 days before the change (four, F-O-U-R) that they were to sell off the remaining packaging items they had on hand and the sealers are now due to be sent back to Salt Lake City. There was an attempt to let as many patrons in the surrounding community know what was happening and the time table they had, but news doesn’t always spread the way one hopes and many patrons have been taken off guard by the more drastic than anticipated change. How to store the remaining five bulk items will be left up to each individual patron. Thank goodness for Mylar and Food Grade Buckets. (Perhaps that will be one of my upcoming posts…)

If I’ve left you with a ton of questions, Kellene Bishop, the Preparedness Pro has more insight about these changes.

I’ve learned over time that the Lord has his hand in our lives, and that “all things (eventually) work for the good of those who love Him”. I know that one day I’ll understand this better and perhaps even bless this change. I’m sure much of the free-fall I’m feeling has a great deal to do with the need to further educate myself to other (new-to-me) ways to build a variety filled home store on a budget. (Personal growth isn’t my favorite thing while I’m in the midst of it.)

Update: On December 5, 2013 the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints released an Official Press Release on the changes at the LDS (Canneries) Home Storage Centers.

Cranberries

http://janethughes.thrivelife.com/cranberries-freeze-dried.html
Just in time for an appearance at your holiday table, Thrive Life has unveiled its latest product, Freeze Dried Cranberries!
This is an available only for a limited time only product; time is limited to while supplies last.

Chef Todd has put together a beautiful Cranberry Sauce recipe, but that’s not all these freeze dried beauties can be easily added to. Just imagine your holiday cookies with a bit of tangy cranberry added. Ever tried a Cranberry Muffin? What about a Blueberry/Cranberry Muffin? Cranberry Cornbread? Simply replace your “fresh” store bought cranberries with rehydrated, (fully ripened before picking) Thrive Life Freeze Dried Cranberries.
My favorite thing about the Thrive Life Freeze Dried Cranberries? The ingredients list… “Cranberries”!
